This Week’s Twitter Challenge- Donate $5 to Donors Choose and Support @graubart’s cause of choice

Last week, it was so awesome to see the community that rallied around @valerial’s cause of raising money for a 3 Day Breast Cancer walk. This week, going in order of who @replied, DMed or commented with a cause suggestion first, our community will support a cause @graubart is passionate about:

Here’s a little bit more about Donors Choose from its Web site:

What if there were a simple way to provide students with the books, technology, and supplies that they need to learn?

What if people from all walks of life could connect directly with public schools, learn about specific classroom needs, and choose how to help? makes this possible.

More here.

So tomorrow morning, please take the $5 you would spend on coffee and donate it to a Donors Choose project of your choice. After you have done so, please send me an @reply, DM or comment to tell me you donated so I can post a thank you to all of you here on ASL.

Last week we raised $180. It seems small, but the idea is sustainability and finding small ways our community can support the causes each of us are passionate about. Imagine $180x 52 weeks.

To better organize this effort, I’ll be setting up a Facebook page or Google Calendar to map out the causes we’re supporting each week and openings we have in the future for you to submit a cause for our community to rally around. Please be patient- I’ll create this as soon as work and deadlines allow:)

UPDATE: On Friday, we successfully raised the $417 needed for Mrs. F to get her students two Flip cameras to make their reading lessons much more interactive and fun. I encourage you to read the full proposal Mrs. F wrote so you can understand what this means for her and her students. A few Twitter members donated to similar proposals on Donors Choose and helped other teachers in need of funding.

I was blown away but how everyone rallied around this effort on Friday. Check out “@amandamooney” on Twitter search to see the people who donated and retweeted everything to spread the word. To give you a sample of the great Twitterers who donated here’s a screen shot from the donation page:

Hopefully Mrs. F and her students will start using Twitter in the classroom as well:)
